France is heaven for cast iron baths, in fact at every Brocante you can find them unloved and in serious need of some work! This is always reflected in the price – I think we paid around €100 for each of our second-hand baths. Reconditioned you can easily add another zero!
France also has an incredible selection of enamel paint at your fingertips in the DIY shops. It does not give you the nish of a kiln red bath, but for around €50 it’s brilliant. The work is in the preparation and, to be honest, sometimes I never got the outside perfect, but wherever there is a problem, there's a solution. Finding spray paint with a texture hides many a sin!
