Cut 2 x squares of fabric 40cm x 40cm each. Lay the squares on top of each other and trim one down 0.5cm smaller than the other.

Fold and press (with an iron) the bigger square edges over the smaller square. Turn in the larger square edge again and pin in place. Put to one side while you make the sling handle and loops.

Cut two strips of fabric, one thinner than the other – 1inch and 2inch wide strips. Take the narrower strip, fold over the edges and press with an iron for a crisp line. Then fold the strip in again and press with the iron once more.

Use a straight stitch along the edge to hold it in place.

Cut the narrow strip into two pieces and pin them inside the hem in opposite corners.

Follow the same steps above to make the thicker handle strip that also runs from corner to corner.

Using a straight stitch on the machine, stitch all the way around the hem to hold the loops and handle in place.

Pack a sandwich and go for a picnic!
