Easy Homemade Gifts
Gifting a loved one with something handmade comes straight from the heart. Here are a few of our homemade Christmas gift ideas that are simple to make but will surely spread a lot of joy.
Pretty Preserves
If you’re a fan of cooking and love making preserves such as jam and chutney (like us!) then a lovely gift idea is to fill up vintage jars and seal them with a fabric lid. I often use old pieces of fabric (I’ve even used Dick’s underpants in the past!) and tie a label round the top with a festive message.
Homemade Fudge
Dick’s mum’s homemade fudge is simply the best. We may be biased, but it is absolutely delicious. Follow the recipe below.
Lavender Bags
Lavender bags have always been one of my favourite things to make and to gift to other people. I love filling them with lavender from the Walled Garden here at the Chateau…it feels like I’m gifting a piece of our home. Make your own lavender bag by sewing together a simple pouch and tying with a ribbon at the top. You don’t just have to use lavender, fill with cinnamon sticks and eucalyptus for a festive twist.
Scented Candle
Candles are a wonderful gift, especially at Christmas time. The smells of the festive season are instantly recognisable and are a beautiful way of wafting festive scents around the home. Make your own by melting soy wax in a pot over a low heat, once melted add your chosen essential oil. Anchor your wick in an old mason jar and pour the melted wax into it.
Botanical Gin Goody Bag
Dick and I are huge gin lovers, there’s nothing quite like sitting down in the evening with a fresh G&T. If you have a loved one that loves gin, creating their own little botanical goody bag is a thoughtful gift idea. Fill your receptacle, whether it be an old tin, jar or a fabric pouch with botanicals to add to their favourite G&T. Ginger, rose petals, citrus peel and peppercorns are some of our faves.
Personalised Bauble
If you’ve got some vintage baubles stored away in your Christmas box or plain decorations that you think would make a great gift, personalise them with your loved one’s name. Practice your calligraphy skills on paper first and then use a fine tip permanent marker to beautifully write their name. A metallic pen such as gold or rose gold will look extra festive!
