Escape To The Chateau With Iconic Designs From The TV series, Part One

Inspired By Dick And Angel’s Home

Celebrate the return of the ninth and final series of Escape to the Chateau by bringing a piece of The Chateau home.

Inspired by their fairytale home Chateau de la Motte Husson, engineer Dick Strawbridge and his wife, designer Angel, have created a range of personalised gifts and homewares, all with a unique story to tell. Each design has evolved as the family uncovered The Chateau’s hidden treasures and enchanting wildlife.

Over eight years and nine series, over 50 beautiful spaces have been rebuilt, restored or reimagined. Dick and Angel have found creative and ingenious ways of transforming an abandoned French Chateau into an incredible family home.

Audiences from over 45 countries have watched as The Chateau revealed its secrets and inspired Angel to create a range of distinctive designs combining her love for Art Deco, Art Nouveau, and illustration with the stories of her home.
Series 6

Recipe Tiles & The Chateau Kitchen Cookbook

Passing down family recipes is a responsibility that should not be taken lightly! In the first episode of series 6, Angel prints a few of their most prized, and treasured, family recipes onto tiles, and puts them up in The Chateau kitchen.

If you like the look of Dick’s Rabbit Stew, or Grandma’s Apple pie, you can find a handful of the Strawbridge family recipe tiles in our shop. Or, if you want to be inspired by the Strawbridge family recipes whilst making sure your family recipes are in safe hands, our personalised version of Dick and Angel’s cookbook, The Chateau Kitchen, allows you to publish your very own recipes!
Series 6

Mademoiselle Daisy

In episode 5, Dick and Angel revamp their very own adventure bus – a vintage Asquith Van! During its transformation, Angel joked about it feeling very “Driving Miss Daisy”; a 30-year old film loved by Dick and Angel, and at that moment the bus was named. But, of course, the French version! Along with completely redesigning the inside of the bus, they also had their very own fabric created and named after the bus - Mademoiselle Daisy.

“Our first trip in the Asquith was around The Chateau’s grounds – so where better to look for inspiration than the wild daisies which flowered in abundance for the first time that year. Re-imagined with Art Nouveau patterning, the daisy motif combines the great outdoors with rich colouring to create a playful and contemporary design, with a backward glance to more carefree times.”

The Mademoiselle Daisy is a truly maximalist design, featuring in a soft velvet on many of our lovely homeware and accessories. Its vibrant colour palette and bold print is perfect for bringing a bit of fun into your home.
Series 8

Emerald Fan

During the first episode of series 8, we saw one of the most heart-warming transformations yet! Dick and Angel were working on the renovation of Papi and Café Grandma’s new bedroom suite in the Coach House. To make it extra special, Angel designed a print just for them and finished the room off with a “Cuddle Cushion” from Arthur and Dorothy.

Synonymous with traditional Japanese dress, the kimono encompasses Angel’s love of all things vintage. Combined with beautiful hand-held fans, flower motifs and elegant Art Deco design, ‘The Emerald Fan’ draws us into an age of glamour and effortless style.

Emerald Fan’s vibrant colour palette of teal, light blue and mustard contrast each other perfectly and make a bold statement. Adorned with illustrated fans, flowers and 1920s-inspired motifs, this design is a true showstopper. In the episode, we see Angel use this print as a feature wallpaper for her parents, styling with modern, French inspired rattan furniture.
