A Vintage Summerhouse on the Scottish Coast

Anya has always dreamed of having a little oasis or summerhouse overlooking the sea at the end of her garden in Fife, Scotland.

Last year, her husband found an ex-display summerhouse in a builders’ yard. Whilst the style was not exactly to her taste, the price was too good an opportunity to pass up and offered the ideal project to add her vintage décor and treasures.

Anya loves to collect old doilies, vintage linens and tea sets “Most of these items have been handmade by somebody in the past, treasured and lovingly stored all these years. I love displaying and using them whilst imagining the stories these items could tell.”

“I adore everything vintage. I dress in original vintage or vintage style clothing every day and also love surrounding myself with old treasures. Things with a bit of history and stories to tell…I have been gathering vintage items from charity shops for years and have also rescued a few items which people were going to send to landfill.”

“All the furniture in my summer house was free, found through Facebook Marketplace, passed on by friends or even rescued from the side of the road." The Chesterfield sofa was given to Anya by a lady downsizing her home who also gifted the large mirror, stool and storage chest once Anya had told her about the project. "The only things I purchased new were Angel’s gorgeous wildflower wallpaper and cushion, because what better place to display them, than in a summer house.”

The Vintage China Cabinet
Anya was given the cabinet by a friend and transformed it by adding the Wildflower wallpaper to the back. It now houses some of her vintage tea cups and tea pots.

A Haven for Family & Friends
Anya loves hosting vintage tea parties in the summer house for friends, reading books, playing games with her daughter, or quietly listening to the sounds of nature.
“It’s the perfect place for recharging my soul.”

A Work in Progress
“The summer house isn’t complete yet. I’ve now started collecting vintage mirrors, so I can transform one of the walls in to a mirror wall to reflect the trees and flowers from the other side of the garden. I would also like to add a few botanical prints behind the couch, hang fairy lights and some vintage style bird cages filled with candles and foliage in the windows.”
