Summer Crafts: How-To Make A Fairy House

Making a fairy house is such a fun and creative way to enjoy nature and hours of make-believe fun with the kids. These mini magical worlds are so simple to make. Use a mix of foraged foliage, moss, pebbles and sticks, with a few small garden centre purchases sprinkled in.

What you'll need:

• Plant pots
• A hammer
• Soil
• Various plants & weeds
• Garden ornaments
• Pebbles
• Gravel moss
• Sticks

Step 1.

Choose a selection of terracotta pots in different sizes. Start by smashing one of the large pots using a hammer. Made sure not to smash the base of the pot as this will be the main part of the fairy house. Place the base of the pot into a saucer and fill it with soil.

Step 2.

Place a smaller pot inside the base and fill it with soil. Using some of the bigger pieces of the broken pot, build up the edge of the pot a little bit more.

Step 3.

Use the smaller shards of pot to create some steps in the soil.

Step 4.

Weeds are great for creating a fairy house landscape. Place foraged foliage, wall weeds and small succulents around the pot to make a garden design. Fill the gaps between the plants with moss to create a grass effect.

Step 5.

When you are happy with your plants, start adding a few garden ornaments. We used a little house, a red bridge and a fairy.

Step 6.

Scatter pebbles around the back of the saucer base, leaving a gap at the front. Use some more moss to create a grassy meadow for the fairy to perch on.

Step 7.

For the finishing touches, add some butterfly decorations in various positions.

Step 8.

Place your fairy home amongst your garden pots or on your window sill. The kids will love watering it and playing with the little ornaments!

If you make this we'd love to see it. You can share it on The Escape to The Chateau Fan Club Facebook page or tag us on Instagram @the_chateau_tv.
