Bedroom makeover: How-to Make a Wild Flower Fabric Headboard
For this how-to we have used The Wildflower Garden fabric in ‘whisper white’. The padding gives the headboard a luxurious feel and the soft palette with the intricate design of the fabric will give the room a timeless look.
What you'll need:
• MDF 18mm cut to your desired size. For this how-to the headboard was cut for a single bedframe (887mm x 1200mm)
• Pencil
• Jigsaw power tool
• Staple gun and staples
• 2m wadding (we used a 19oz 550g weight wadding)
• 2m top fabric (we used Wildflower Whisper White.)
• Fabric pins
• Trims & fabric glue (optional)
• Screws & brackets (depending on your bed and how you will secure the headboard to it)

Step 1.
Cut your 18mm MDF cut down to size at our local supplier. It costs pennies per cut and is well worth a trip if you don’t have the power tools. Check the measurements are correct by fitting the MDF to the bed for size.
Step 2.
Mark where the existing headboard uprights end and where the shape of the headboard will start. Then draw the shape you want on the headboard and cut it out with a jigsaw power tool.
Step 3.
Lay the wadding down then place your headboard on top. For a light layer of padding use a thick wadding rather than a combination of a dense foam and wadding combo. Pull the wadding tight around the edge of the MDF. Staple it in place along the back edge of the headboard and trim off any excess wadding.
Step 4.
Repeat the process for the top fabric of your headboard. pulling it tight across the front of the headboard and around the back and stapling it down over the wadding.
Step 5.
Option to add a ruffle trim around the top edge of the headboard to mirror the floral fabric. Pin it in place and gather it randomly as you go. The remove each pin and staple it in place.
Step 6.
Once you have it secured, you can use any trim to cover the staples. We used a green velvet ribbon and some fabric glue to cover the run of staples. Use pins to hold the ribbon in place as the glue dries.
Step 7.
You’re then ready to attach your headboard to your bed. Drill wood screws along each of the existing pine slats and into the new MDF headboard. The more screws the better to make sure it’s held safely in place.
Step 8.
Dress your bed with coordinating or complementary bed linen, cushions and throws and settle now for a good night’s sleep.
