Step-by-Step for the 3D Initial
Step 1.
Start by gluing one side of the letter onto the wrapping paper using fabric glue (PVA can soak through the paper and make it wrinkly). Once glued down, cut around the letter leaving a 1.5inch gap to fold around the sides of the letter. Make a few snips with the scissors into the excess paper so you can fold and wrap the paper around the 3D letter.
Step 2.
Before folding the paper into the corner, cut a strip of paper the same depth as the letter and then glue it into the corner to make sure the craft paper letter is completely covered. You will only need to do this if the letter you are wrapping has a corner like this. Start to fold the excess paper around the sides of your letter.
Step 3.
Folder the paper around the sides and draw around your letter. Cut it out to place over the front or back facing side to cover up the rough edges of paper.
Step 4.
Use the same fabric glue and carefully place the piece of paper on the last side of the letter.
For the Back To School notice board:
Step 1.
Use any size cork board and fabric of your choice. Cut a piece big enough to insert into the cork board covering the cork facing side only. Press the fabric into the frame of the board. Rub a finger along the frame line to mark where to trim the fabric down. Put this piece of fabric to the side and continue to cover the frame with the same fabric.
Step 2.
Cover the frame with fabric glue and spread it evenly with a brush. Place the frame down onto the back of the fabric. Draw a square on each corner of the frame. Each side of the square should be the same measurement as the depth of the frame.
Step 3.
Trim the excess fabric on all four sides. Cut along the horizontal lines in the corners, carefully cutting around the squares. Using scissors, snip into one side of the squares until you reach the corner of the frame. This will create a tab.
Step 4.
Turn the board over and pull the extra fabric around to the back of the board. Use chalk or a pencil to mark a line where the wooden frame ends. Cut the fabric down to size. Glue all sides down around the side and the back of the wooden frame.
Step 5.
Turn the board over. Snip a hole in the centre of the fabric. Cut diagonally into each corner of the fabric until you meet the inner corner of the wooden frame. Rub your finger down the inside of the frame to mark where to cut the fabric down to size.
Step 6.
Glue the fabric down so that all of the sides of the wooden frame are covered in fabric.
Step 7.
To cover the cork side, brush a line of glue around the inside of the board frame. Smooth the piece of fabric (which you previously cut to size) in place.
Step 8.
To define the cork board frame, used a piece of narrow velvet ribbon to edge it and cover the raw edge of the fabric.
Step 9.
To decorate the board, use fabric glue to stick the birch plywood butterfly shapes onto the back of some wrapping paper.
Step 10.
Use a cutting matt and knife to cut out each of the butterflies. Once you have a selection of sizes covered in the printed paper, use foam sticky pads to layer the different sized butterflies together. Various depths create a dynamic look!
Step 11.
Use birch plywood craft circles with pre-drilled holes to glue more of the wrapping paper to one side of the circle. Cut out in the same way as the butterflies.
Step 12.
Using more of the sticky pads, stick the 3D butterflies down to the circle, clustering them into different depths and sizes. Lay out the circles and add in some plain circles ready to be threaded together. Make two strings of circles to hang side by side for a fuller and layered look.
